“SUMMER IN THE CITY”
A Day Trip to Chicago
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 4
7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

Our day trip to Chicago will start with transportation (and parking) provided on our luxury motor coach so we can relax while we get ready for our adventure.  First stop will be at the Chicago History Museum to see the special exhibit entitled “Chicago Ties The Knot” featuring famous weddings.  For those who wish, you can stay for a tea luncheon at the museum for an additional $18 or you can board the bus after the tour to be dropped off at various points downtown.  Our thanks to Nancy Bailey and Judy Palmer for planning this tour.

The choices are endless as Chicago can be a “career”.  For those who want to shop or go to their favorite place for lunch, there will be a drop off by Sak’s.  Others who want to tour the Driehaus Museum (the 19th Century Mansion of Samuel M. Nickerson) that has been recently restored and is known as the Marble House, there will be a stop and pick up.  Reservations are required for the tours at 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. at an additional cost of $17.  Another attraction is the Chicago Architectural Tour via boat.  Tours are 90 minutes long and the cost is $31 (seniors) or $36.  The tours leave on the hour.  Of course, there is also the Chicago Institute of Arts.  Regardless of what you decide to do, you will enjoy “Chicago Your Way” in the afternoon.

The cost of transportation and the Chicago History Museum is $75 for Members and $80 for Guests.  Please call in your reservation 459.3321 by July 29.

Happy Summer Travels!!!

“YES, FLINT!”
A Day Trip to Discover the Treasures
of Flint
WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 1
8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

At one time Flint and Grand Rapids were vying for which city would be the Number Two in the State of Michigan.  Although Grand Rapids ultimately won that position, along the way our former rival developed some “treasures” that are worthwhile discovering.
The day will start at “Applewood”, the 34 acre Estate of Charles S. Mott and Ruth Rawlings Mott, built in 1916 as a self-sufficient gentleman’s farm.  We will enjoy the thousands of trees and flowers on the estate.  (The former home of a G.M. Vice-President is not open to the public, but we will see it from outside.)  There will be golf carts available to tour the estate for those who would prefer not to walk.  Following our tour, we will have a guide board our bus to point out the unique buildings and share the history of Flint on our way to lunch.

The Blackstone Pub and Grill, an Irish inspired restaurant, is the place for lunch.  It is located in a restored building that previously housed Blackstone’s Clothery, an upscale men’s store.  Lunch is on your own so you can select whatever you would like from their menu.

After lunch we will go to the Sloan Museum with the history of the Buick in the Automotive Gallery, the influence of the U.A.W. plus concept cars.  There is also a section dedicated to the history of Flint.  All too soon it will be time to return to the Women's City Club with our thanks to Barbara Schied for planning this trip.

The cost of the tour is $51 for members and $56 for guests. Please print your name and phone number when you sign up by August 17. Happy Summer travels!!
